About Integra

Founded by Lizette Becker, Integra Consulting Africa is a trusted provider of integrated communication and stakeholder engagement solutions.

Integrated communication, as practiced by Integra Consulting, is the art of combining organisational strategy concepts and tools with communications disciplines.
Integra’s offering includes:

Developing communication strategies that facilitate authentic engagement between organisations and their stakeholders, resulting in meaningful connections and mutual benefit.

Supporting organisations in demonstrating their purpose publicly and internally, integrating it across strategy, branding, and culture to ensure consistency and alignment.

Curating inspirational stories and employee engagement initiatives that align with organisational values, instilling a sense of pride, and encouraging employees to bring their best to the organisation.

This is not a cookie-cutter outfit with a catalogue of communication services. Instead, each approach is tailored to meet clients’ specific needs and strategic objectives, while acting as an extension of the team. All this is provided without the excessive mark-ups and overheads typically associated with traditional consultancies.

My Approach

I bring the best of both worlds.

As a consultant, I offer you an external perspective. As a sole practitioner, I am agile, and flexible enough to be an extension of your team.

I offer senior executive level service through part-time involvement. This enables your organisation to access my extensive experience without the burden of a full-time senior executive salary.

Enneagram profiling will tell you I’m Type 1 (strict perfectionist) while the Insights® Discovery Personal Profile will describe me as a ‘creative supporting helper’. Integrating these two very different types has enabled me to become responsive to others’ needs, with detailed precision.

Whether it’s wearing the hat of the strategist or the implementer, or shifting from being a specialist to a generalist, I adapt my approach to suit your brief.

Investing in your success, caring about your business and being here to support you in achieving your goals underscore everything I do.

My capabilities can be further complemented with specialist services from my handpicked network of preferred suppliers.

My Journey

MY PATH TO BECOMING A CHANGEMAKER

I have more than 20 years’ corporate experience across the United Kingdom, South Africa, and the rest of the SADC region(specifically, Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe).

I have worked in multiple industries and sectors, and in multiple capacities, from securing new business wins to hosting the presidents of various countries.

While my path has led to a number of pit stops, the golden thread of my career has been my drive to make a positive impact in every situation. My journey has gone full-circle (from consultancy to consulting).

  • Laying the Foundation

I graduated with a major in Industrial Psychology from the University of Stellenbosch. In my final year, I was the Primaria of my Residence, which gave me a taste of managing a corporate institution, even though it was a fraternity. This experience led me to pursue a career in public relations and a post-graduate diploma in Public Relations and Media Studies.

  • Stepping stone

I started as an intern at a PR firm and was later promoted to Junior Account Manager, handling business communications, PR and reputation management for a range of clients. These included Siemens Information and Communications Networks, P&O, Clicks and Truworths. Here I learned how to apply theory in practice.

  • London calling

Wanting more practical experience, I moved to London and joined the world’s largest PR professional body, the Public Relations and Communications Association (PRCA) as New Business Director. I was responsible for developing and managing the association’s new business service, and handled more than 1,500 client inquiries during my tenure. I was exposed to the world’s best PR campaigns, developed best practice tools, and mastered analysing new business trends.

  • Hitting targets

I continued pursuing new business development at a health and well-being communications consultancy in London while pioneering the integration of a new business culture within the agency. I proactively managed the agency’s new business and marketing activities, honing my skills in project management, best practices, and quality control. I also played a crucial role in securing new clients, including the agency’s largest win, Kellogg’s.

  • Back on African soil

When my family relocated to Johannesburg, I joined a PR consultancy in the capacity of Senior Account Manager. I directed an account team handling a full-service PR offering for clients such as Discovery Networks Europe Middle East & Africa, Ster-Kinekor Distribution, Sony Pictures Releasing International, and Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, as well as CSI projects such as L’Oreal-UNESCO’s Women in Science fellowships.

  • Country of origin

Returning to Namibia, I embraced the opportunity to promote local products and services as part of Team Namibia’s vision. I developed a strategy to make Namibian products and services part of everyday life, and increase the competitiveness of local businesses in line with the country’s Vision 2030 and National Development Plan.

  • Something’s brewing

I then joined Namibia Breweries, where I helped develop the company’s marketing innovation and renovation strategy. I implemented a defensive brand strategy through home-grown product developments designed to strengthen local value chains in support of Namibia’s industrialisation strategy.

  • Leading Entertainment

Lured by pan-African corporate communications, I joined MultiChoice Africa. After introducing best practices at country level, I was appointed Regional Head of Corporate Affairs, advising markets in promoting and protecting the business’s reputation. I developed strategic plans to integrate MultiChoice’s social value model in nine subsidiary markets in SADC, and to foster collaboration and best practice sharing between regional internal comms units.

  • Strategic direction

During my MBA I completed an internship at Unilever in the capacity of Strategic Project Manager. I delivered a five-year turnaround strategy for a selected category to enable the business to enter growing tailwind segments. I developed an understanding of the market, identified vital problems and crafted solutions based on international trends and local opportunities for the brand.

  • My Great Reset

Following the immense socio-economic impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, I took a sabbatical to complete a full-time MBA at UCT’s Graduate Business School to refine my strategic leadership capabilities. As part of my MBA dissertation, I delved into the realm of integrated reports, closely analyzing how the largest 40 JSE-listed companies in South Africa disclosed organisational resilience during the pandemic. I developed a conceptual framework that integrated practices with the latest global trends in organisational resilience during the Covid-19 pandemic. Exploring the two constructs together gave me a newfound understanding of a company’s ability to create value, which, if enhanced by resilience, amounts to a competitive advantage and stronger financial performance.

  • Navigating a new world

Now I fulfil my role as changemaker, navigating our ever-changing world of work with purpose. Since establishing Integra, I have worked on an advocacy campaign to socialise climate justice in Africa; B2B marketing campaign to accelerate Africa’s access to sustainable energy technologies; communications architecture to support a delivery unit; and facilitated purpose workshops (and more) in between. I love applying my continuous learnings, cross-pollinating ideas, and employing my collective skills to serve in new ways.
